Biography

Portrait of Sam Daoud in a dark suit

Sam’s career began with entrepreneurship. He co-founded internet businesses, built products with small teams, won customers, raised capital, and learned the responsibility that comes with making payroll and earning trust. At eBay, he brought that builder’s mindset to marketplace reputation, site security, payments, and user-generated content. The work produced patents covering behavioral reputation, identity verification, and safer content policies. The technology was designed to help strangers transact with greater confidence.

At Souq.com, Sam helped turn a regional startup into the Middle East’s leading ecommerce company. As Chief Technology Officer and later Chief Operating Officer, he built product, engineering, data science, and operations organizations at significant scale while helping Souq evolve from auctions into a trusted fixed-price marketplace. He is especially proud of the people he recruited and mentored, many of whom went on to leadership roles at Amazon, Google, Meta, and other influential companies.

When Amazon acquired Souq, Sam helped carry the company, its customers, and its teams into a new chapter. He led product work behind the launches of Amazon.ae, Amazon.sa, and Amazon.eg, including Arabic experiences, locally relevant search, and operational foundations built for the region. He later led Amazon’s worldwide retail-pricing organization, bringing together product, engineering, data, and applied science to operate machine-learning systems across dozens of global marketplaces.

Between those chapters, Sam served as Chief Product Officer at Flowspace, helping a growing fulfillment startup improve its product, customer experience, and operational discipline. Across companies large and small, his approach has remained consistent: understand the real problem, give capable people room to grow, use data without losing judgment, and take responsibility for the outcome.

Sam has also been an active early- and growth-stage investor since 2017, completing 33 investment and acquisition transactions across 32 startups and digital businesses. His portfolio spans aerospace, artificial intelligence, fintech, logistics, health, education, mobility, and enterprise software, and includes SpaceX, Flexport, Mercury, Headspace, Udemy, Lime, and Turing. For Sam, investing is another way to support ambitious builders and stay close to people attempting difficult, worthwhile things.

His newest chapter is also his most personal. When remaining at Amazon would have meant relocating full-time to Seattle, Sam chose the life he and his family had built in San Diego. During a home and pool remodel, he began studying water chemistry, circulation, filtration, and equipment while asking whether the water his children swam in was truly as safe, balanced, and comfortable as it could be. That question became BlueLux.

In close to a year, Sam has invested more than $200,000 in BlueLux, completed more than five acquisitions, and grown the company to serve hundreds of customers across San Diego. BlueLux combines CPO-certified technicians and precise water testing with its own software, AI-assisted workflows, connected hardware, and real operating experience. The goal is straightforward: measure instead of guess, treat every pool as its own system, and give families the honest, thoughtful service Sam wanted for his own.

The common thread through Sam’s work is not a title or a technology. It is a willingness to learn deeply, build patiently, care for the people doing the work, and leave systems stronger than he found them. Those are the values he hopes his family sees in what he builds. It is the example he hopes his children carry forward.

BlueLux

BlueLux began with a father’s question: is the water my children swim in truly safe, balanced, and comfortable?

Sam turned that question into a vertically integrated technology and operations company. BlueLux acquires and operates real service businesses, serves hundreds of customers across San Diego, and runs on software it builds itself. CPO-certified technicians measure rather than guess, treating every pool as its own system while AI, connected hardware, and equipment intelligence improve the work in the field and behind the scenes.
